- Target of the study: The study focuses on building the scientific and practical foundations, in order to suggest the potential solutions and conditions for enhancing competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry during international integration.
- Purpose of the study: Competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry during international economic integration. Amongst the firms in the industry, Vietnam Rubber Company plays the most crucial part in organizing and setting goals for development. Thus, together with the analysis about competitiveness of Vietnam firms, the study presents and analyzes the statuses of Vietnam Rubber Company as a typical example.

New contributions of the study, results of the study:
The new aspect of the study is to analyze the competitiveness of an industry that has overseas market. The results show that the competitiveness of Vietnam rubber is influenced by many factors, both internal and external of firms and industry, and even by international factors. Following is some new points of the study:
Theory-based: The study shows the relationship amongst various levels of competitiveness: product, firm, industry and country.Especially, the study has chosen appropriate theory with analyzed comparison and various approaches.Moreover, the study alsoidentifies and researches different factors that affect the competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry.
Praticality-based: The study summarizes methods of improving the competitiveness of rubber industry that are used in countries- other direct competitors and/or domestic market in Vietnam. The study shows some core competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry such as: (i) the product structure has changed in the positive way; (ii) the structure of export market has increasingly diversified and constantly expanded; (iii) Vietnam rubber firms have gradually decreased the dependence on Chinese market – a potential market but lots of risk. Specially, the study has presented reasons for drawbacks of Vietnam rubber industry, for instance, the scale of rubber exports is small and the price is low; the quality and product structure don’t meet the international market. As a whole, rubber’s market has only developed in width but not in depth.
To improve competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry whilst Vietnam is playing a more active part in global value series, the study has presented new ideas and appropriate solution. Especially, the study has developed a model of value series for Vietnam rubber industry and with that, emphasizing advantages of costs of products and rubber industry in the global market. Basically, these solutions apply the model “Diamond” and “value series” of M.Porter. Two approaches complement each other but alternate. They guarantee the comprehensiveof building and developing competitiveness of Vietnam rubber industry.
