11. Summary of the new findings of
the thesis: The thesis has achieved the
following results:
[1] The basic theoretical issues
about green banking, the measurement of green banking development and the
determinants on the level development of green banks are systematized. A bank
is considered as a green bank when it has built a sustainable business
strategy, reflected in the provision of banking services satisfying the
criteria of ensuring environmental and social responsibility. The dissertation
has built a theoretical framework that identifies six groups of factors
affecting green banking development, including: (i) State support policies on
development of green banks; (ii) Macro factors; (iii) Green investment demand;
(iv) Financial capacity of the bank; (v) Bank leaders' awareness of green
banking; (vi) Staff capacity.
[2] On the basis of considering the
practical experience of green banking adoption in developed and developing
countries around the world, the thesis has drawn a number of lessons to
successfully develop green banking, including: It is necessary to have the
intervention and support of the government agencies to encourage green credit
and green loans; It is necessary to complete the legal and regulations on the
process and mechanism of providing green financial services; Green banking
adoption requires the joint efforts of every organizations and businesses in
the economy in general and financial institutions in particular.
[3] The empirical research results
show that the level of development of green banks in Vietnam is at level 3 -
Systematic business operations, in which, most of the bank's processes and
products are in compliance with the “green” principles, the bank's
organizational structure is designed to support a “green” impact on four
levels: people, process, principles and purpose. Currently, there is no bank in
Vietnam that is truly considered a Green Bank. Almost Vietnam’s banks are
providing green banking services or lending activities linked to environmental
commitments. The green bank adoption in Vietnam in the recent period is
reflected through the completion of the basic legal framework for the
development of green banks and the growth of green credit in Vietnam’s banking
system.
[4] Four groups of factors affecting
the development of commercial banks in Vietnam include: Macro factors that have
the greatest impact on the development of green banking in Vietnam; Financial
capacity of the bank; Support policies on green banking development; Green
investment demands.
[5] The development of green banking
is an inevitable trend in the future period. The thesis has proposed a number
of recommendations to contribute to the development of green banking in Vietnam
by 2030, including: Improving macroeconomic factors; Enhancing and
strengthening the financial situation of the bank; Providing necessary supports
on green banking development; Encouraging green investment by business
organizations.
12.
Practical applicability: The thesis has the following practical contributions: (i) The thesis
helps to clarify the current status of the development of green banks in Vietnam according to international practices; (ii) The results of the thesis help commercial banks and the bank managers to recognize the factors, as
well as the degree of influence of these factors on the development of banks in
Vietnam. It helps commercial banks to propose appropriate solutions to promote the adoption of green banking in Vietnam; (iii)

solutions to promote the development of green banks
in Vietnam.
