CDIO is a system of knowledge and skills accummulative methods in training students who later will be able to work for businesses and serve the society. CDIO gives very specific and full guidelines of outcome standards, training curriculumn framework, teaching and learning environment, teaching and learning methods, as well as teaching and learning evaluation. In terms of nature, CDIO is actually an outcome-based training process. The core and basic values according to CDIO outcome standards are general so it can be applied for various academic programs.
About authors:
- Assoc.Prof.PhD. Phung Xuan Nha is now a vice president of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He also works as a lecturer and guest lectures for domestic and international universities. He anthored and co-authored a number of monographs. He was a manager of state-level research projects. Remarkably, he has scientific articles published in highly presitige journals of sciences in Vietnam and in the world.
- Dr. Vu Anh Dung is now dean of the Faculty of International Business and Economics, University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. He gained his doctoral degree at the University of Camgrige, U.K. He studied advanced training and education models included the CDIO approach. He was a manager of the CDIO research project which adapted the CDIO approach in developing learning outcomes and syllabus for international economics sector at the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Therefore, CDIO is highly feasible for the development of new academic programs and the improvement of the exisiting ones worldwide.
Through the analysis of the nature and features of the CDIO approach and its practical application at some universities worldwide, the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi applied the CIDO method in improving the bachelor program on international economics - honors. The program’s stakeholders are students, alumni, lecturers, businesses, and employers were questioned of the basic knowledge and skills that students should master and all subjects existing in the program. Thanks to the CDIO research project, outcome standards for the international economics programs (honors) were developed. Some other parts of the program were also adjusted in order to make sure graduate students master the knowledge, skills and qualities suitable to serve the society and work effectively in international working settings.
By studying the application of the CDIO approach in several international universities, the research team had come up with a specific and comprehensive table of outcome standards which have similartities to that of the universities in the Netherlands and European countries. They were also sucessful at upgrading the training curriculum framework of international economics sector at the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
