Covid-19 impact on spending behavior

Covid-19 pandemic has made radical changes in people’s spending, saving and investment behavior. Amid these turbulence times, the Faculty of Finance and Banking, VNU University of Economics and Economics held a seminar to publish the study evaluating the impacts of Covid-19 pandemic on spending, saving, investing behavior in Vietnam in the morning of August 5th, 2020.

The seminar attracted leading experts in the financial field such as PhD. Can Van Luc - Chief Economist of BIDV; Assoc.Prof.PhD. Pham Thi Hoang Anh - Director of Research Institute for Banking, the Vietnam Banking Academy. From the UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Truc Le - Rector; Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.PhD. Tran Thi Thanh Tu - Dean of Faculty of Finance and Banking; PhD. Dinh Thi Thanh Van - Vice Dean of Faculty of Banking and Finance together with lecturers of the Faculty.

Opening the seminar, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Truc Le said, during the hard time of Covid-19, assessing its impact on people's lives is extremely important. The study with a new approach provided necessary materials for managers, experts and households to adjust their behavior in saving, spending and investing.

After the opening speech of the Rector, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Tran Thi Thanh Tu - Dean of the Faculty of Banking and Finance, chaired the seminar. Based on the survey of nearly 600 individuals, the research team had concrete evidence to analyze the effects of the Covid-19 people’s behavior. From this, recommendations are made to promote education of personal financial behavior and proactive measures to deal with epidemics and similar crises that may occur in the future.
