Building a joint research database in economic policy and management

Within the framework of the UEB Research and Sharing seminar series, the Vietnam Institute for Economic & Policy Research (VEPR) collaborated with the Faculty of Political Economy to organize a seminar with the theme of "Building a common research database in economic policy and management” on June 27, 2022.

For lecturers, students, and particularly students majoring in economics, data plays an important role in creating a scientific theoretical basis or an argument to prove a hypothesis in research and experiments. Meanwhile, there is rarely a program to build a research database close to lecturers, students to serve research activities. The seminar was an opportunity to discuss VEPR's data sharing program with Faculties and Institutes under the VNU-UEB, first of all with the Faculty of Political Economy in order to build a common research database in the field of policy and economic management. This is also an opportunity for lecturers, students to exchange their aspirations, share difficulties and suggest ways to build a more practical data sharing environment, closer to their wishes and needs regarding research activities.

Specifically, the seminar aimed to review and collect the available data of VEPR and the Faculty of Political Economy according to research fields. The review and collection results suggest the following recommendations:

Firstly, it is necessary to review the database from 2014 to present, including foreign databases and domestic databases to serve as inputs for projects, serving the planning of data exploitation.

Secondly, build a medium-term database to 2025 and long-term to 2030, including:

• Database is built by VEPR, Faculties and Institutes.

• Database needs to be purchased.

• Database is developed in collaboration with domestic and foreign partners.

Thirdly, the database needs to be regularly reviewed and shared to serve the research activities of VEPR, faculties, institutes as well as lecturers, students; serving scientific research competitions within VNU-UEB.

Fourthly, Faculties and Institutes need to exchange more mechanisms to cooperate and share joint data in the coming period.

Fifthly, support and call for data contributions from lecturers, researchers, and students to diversify and strengthen the database. This will be a useful resource to serve the study and research at the VNU-UEB.
