On 20th April 2010, Coordinators of 16+23 program, School of Business, University of Economics and Business - VNU held a seminar of Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Cover Letter writing for QH-2008-E students (sophomores).
Attending to the seminar were MA. Tran Thi Hoang Yen - Vice Director of Human Resources Office, two international volunteers Wiebke Wussow and Anja Schwiertz and many QH-2008-E students of School of Business, University of Economics and Business - VNU.
At the seminar, Ms. Tran Thi Hoang Yen shared and instructed students about the importance, significance and structure of an impressive CV. She emphasized that CV is an important tool to “self-advertise” to employers and a CV should create a highlight in words and format to attract an employer’s first impression. Apart from the helpful advices of finishing an impressive CV, Ms. Yen also directly suggested and assisted students how to compliment their CV. The seminar was more ebullient with two international volunteers’ ideas. Ms. Yen suggested the American styled CV, and two volunteers recommended the European style to finish a CV. They believe that depends on each country with its own job applying culture and manner, the candidates should pay attention to finish their CV in the most effective and impressive way.
Attached with an application document is also a cover letter. Ms. Yen stated that a cover letter has the second-best importance regarding to CV so the students should also give attention to it. Moreover, a cover letter should be brief and focus on central points of personal study and experience. It also should indicate what are a candidate going to do, reasons of applying and the contributions to the employer. The reason should be creative and diversified tp persuade and impress the employer. Accordingly, a thorough understanding about the employer is needed.
The seminar was a valuable opportunity and a bridge for QH-2008-E students acquire necessary and real to prepare for future jobs.
