Examining and evaluating the VNU research project on “Service Export policy relating to international economic integration of Vietnam”

On 12th March 2009, the University of Economics and Business held a meeting to examine and evaluate the thesis “Vietnamese Service Export Policy (Code QK.08.09, written by Dr. Ha Van Hoi, Lecturer, Faculty of International Business and Economics) relating to international economic integration of Vietnam.

The scientific board was composed of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Chairman; and other scientists working at Trade Research Institute, Ministry of Industry and Trade; Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP); Board of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

During the session, Dr. Ha Van Hoi briefly presented the thesis to the Board. The focus of the thesis was on analyzing and clarifying the theoretical and practical basis of service export policies of Vietnam in the context of economic integration. The author focused on researching and analyzing the fundamental issues of service and its role and impact on the economy as following: gathering information from other countries and determining the causes for the deficiencies in the Vietnamese policies; practical means in implementing the obligation of Vietnam in opening service market. The author also suggested, designed and systematized both short - term and long - term objectives to strengthen service export policies in international transition and integration of Vietnam.

Members of the Board responded with the following comments, and judgments: the thesis was studied intensively for both theoretical and practical significance; the figures were updated and scientifically processed. The thesis also contained suggestions regarding service export policies in the arena of international economic integration of Vietnam.

Significantly, the author of the thesis suggested that personnel training be combined with scientific research, one of the strategic targets of the UEB and the Board recommends urgent implementation of the thesis. The authors have been guiding five postgraduate students to implement their thesis and publish four articles in economic magazines.

The thesis has carefully been examined and the following judgment rendered: Good.
