UEB’s expert joining international conference on “Development of the capital market in restructuring the financial system in Vietnam”

In order to assess the status, causes and suggest solutions for the government to promote capital market, contributing to the restructuring of the economy in general and financial market in particular, the National Financial Supervisory Commission (NFSC) cooperating with Irish Aid to Vietnam and the asset management corporation Vina Capital organized the international conference on Development of the capital market in restructuring the financial system in Vietnam” on 23 to 24 August 2012.

The conference gathered over 120 policy-makers, leaders of ministries and national and international senior economic specialists: Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment, State Bank of Vietnam, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Home Affairs, IMF, World Bank, JICA, ADB, UNDP, IFC, and HSBC...
At the conference, delegates mentioned such main issues as: role of capital market after crisis, international experience on capital market and recommendations for Vietnam; developing regional capital market in the integration process; role of foreign investors and organizations to the restructuring Vietnam’s securities market; restructuring securities market in the context of restructuring the economy; role of bond market in the context of restructuring Vietnam economy...
VNU-UEB participated in the conference with the lecture“Research on the efficiency of capital market in Vietnam and policy recommendations”, delivered by Asoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, UEB Rector and Dr. Le Trung Thanh, Vice Dean of Finance-Banking Faculty.

The lecture of UEB representative at the conference attracted interest and discussion of many participants and news reporters. Among those, comments mainly focus on analyzing causes of inefficiency of capital market in Vietnam, solutions to monitor capital market, model and mandate of NFSC, State Securities Commission of Vietnam (SSC), penalties and roles of alliances in monitoring market players.
The conference brought an overview of capital market in Vietnam as well as its role and impact in restructuring the economy. Judgments and evaluations of economic specialists will be meaningful suggestions for policy-makers in restructuring financial market in particular and the economy in general.
