In the last few months of the school year 2017-2018, Faculty of Banking and Finance, UEB welcomed Professor Richard D. Beason - Director of International Partnership at Alberta University (Canada) to visit and work at the Faculty.
In this work trip to Vietnam, Professor Beason will teach and research at the Faculty for 1 year. During his stay, he will join the research on Governance in Banking and teaching the honors programs in Banking and Finance. This cooperation is a part of UEB’s orientation in inviting professors and foreign experts to teach and study at the University in the long term.
Prof. Beason is a leading expert in banking management. In particular, with 10 years of experience in Japan, he is well-versed in banking and finance systems in Asia. His research interest includes ownership structures, bank governance and performance evaluation. He has published many valuable research results in prestigious international journals. He used to be a scholar in Research and Economics Institute, Japan Bank, Advanced Research Fund (FAIR, Japan), Institute of Monetary Policy and Finance, Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan and many other organizations and companies.
From the first few days to Hanoi, Prof. Richard D. Beason has taught two training courses for bank executives nationwide on "Building Effective Boards in Banking" and "Risk Management and Control Environment for bank leaders" from 29 to 30th May 2018. In these training courses, he shared his research on the relationship between ownership structure and banking governance conducted in Japan. He also addressed issues that the banking system in Asian countries may encounter in the development process. According to Prof. Beason, the successes and failures of Japanese banking are important for bank policymakers in developing countries, including Vietnam.

In particular, Prof. Richard D. Beason attended the regular research talk of the Faculty on May 31st. During the meeting, he had many valuable comments on the topic of doctoral students Nguyen Tuan Anh and Nguyen Thi Hai Yen. He pointed out the strengths and limitations in the research of the students and shared his experiences while conducting international publications in the field of financial management bank.
