Within the framework of the exchange program between Osaka City University (OCU - Japan) and University of Economics and Business, Prof. Masaharu Ota has delivered a lecture on innovation management at UEB on 28th June before faculty members and students of the two universities.
Openning the seminar, Prof. Masaharu Ota has provided the audiences with an overview on his research project, which analyzes the renovation management to construct capabilities for swift innovation in an organization/ corporation.
According to Prof. Masaharu’s study, innovation is simply the creation to change the value of activities in the economic system. Innovation is not only “invention”, it includes the innovative production process, organizational structure and business promotion. Besides the discussion, analysis and evidence from several Japanese companies, he also analyzed and evaluated the role of the total quality management (TQM) for the innovation process.
Total Quality Management is a management philosophy aims at improving quality and perfect quality products. Currently, TQM can be applied at all stages of the operation in an enterprise/organization. In Japan, TQM has been employed since the 1950s, when there has not been an international standard for quality management systems like ISO 9000.
In Vietnam, some enterprises have adopted TQM in some organizational processes such as human resources, building program, planning assessment and quality design; re-structure, building and development the quality system... Prof. Masaharu Ota believed that enterprises who are able to manage the innovation systematically, scientifically will get success. Innovation is a process which requires thorough management, in which TQM is considered as a useful tool, particularly suitable for Asian business.
After the presentation, there have been quite many questions sent to Prof. Masaharu Ota. From his response, the faculty members and students of the two universities have discussed the knowledge on innovation philosophy and its impact to the operation as well as the success of an organization/business.
