Honorary Doctorate Degree conferring ceremony to Mr. Rikhipal Singh Thakral

In the morning of 14th January, 2014, the conferring ceremony of honorary doctorate degree for Mr. Rikhipal Singh Thakral, who established In Sewa Ltd. Co. (Singapore), took place at VNU-UEB.

The ceremony was co-organized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi and VNU University of Economics and Business. Attending the ceremony were Mr.Tran Phi Tuoc - Former Director of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Labour Invalids and Social Affairs, Mr. Rikhipal Singh Thakral, his wife and family, Mr. Luu Van Thanh - General Director of Luu Hung Phat Vietnam Ltd. Co., (unit was authorized by Thakral- In Sewa charity fund in Vietnam); Board of President of VNU, Board of management of UEB and leaders of subordinate units.

Mr. Rikhi Singh Thakral was born on 23^rd April, 1963 in Singapore. He is an Executive Director of the Thakral Group. He was particularly interested in charity activities that help children in Indochina countries, including Vietnam. To do charity activities for children, students over the world, he and his family established In Sewa Ltd. Co., in Singapore directed by himself.

He arrived in Vietnam in 1986 for the first time. In the process of business development, he actively did charity to help poor children in Vietnam, with a motto in kind funding for long-term and effective support to whom had the most difficult circumstances of society. Thakral Group has funded to help children and students for 13 consecutive years, also for many coming years. Activities of Thakral Group and Rikhi were done over three regions of Vietnam which were highly appreciated by Vietnam Government and local units.

Mr. Rikhi Thakral thanked as receiving the honorary doctorate degree of VNU

From 2010 up to now, under the auspice of the Thakral Group, InSewa Ltd. Co., and Mr. Thakral, VNU and UEB have received 131 scholarships with total amount was over 1.0 billion Vietnam Dong. These were annually valuable scholarships for VNU students who had disadvantage and reached high academic achievement, disabled students.

Mr. Rikhi Thakral also expressed his desire to cooperate with VNU to support poor students who have difficulty and achieve high academic achievement, have raising awareness, as well as helping to train high quality personnel, Vietnam young leaders in the future; introducing good business managers of well-known corporations to VNU, and directly participating in supporting to develop VNU’s national education system...

Sharing at the ceremony, Mr. Rikhi Thakral said: "I am deeply honored thatThakral Grouphasalwayscontributed tohelp andnurturethose who areless fortunateinlife. Today, I amveryproud tobe conferredthe honorary doctorate degree from President of VNU. Iwould like to thankyou".

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Son – Rector of VNU-UEB had a speech to highly appreciate Thakral’s cooperation and support to VNU-UEB

On behalf of VNU-UEB, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son – Rector congratulated Mr. Rikhi Thakral and expressed: VNU-UEB highly appreciated Thakral’s cooperation in the past time. Beside scholarships for disadvantaged students and get high academic achievement, Thakral Corporation also awarded to lecturers who get scientific research achievements of VNU, including lecturers of UEB. It was great encouragement for lecturers and students to continue develop their job and study.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son also expressed his desire to continue receiving the cooperation and support from the Thakral Group in general and Mr. Rikhi Thakral in particular, especially in establishing development fund, improving capacity of scientific research for lecturers and students of VNU-UEB

Congratulating to Mr. Rikhi Thakral, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice President of VNU said that conferring the Honorary Doctorate Degree today expressed special appreciation of VNU for his noble gesture and excellent operating ability.

After the ceremony, Mr. Rikhi Thakral had an exchange to share with the UEB students about motivations for him and his family to do charitable activities, as well as his success and few interesting questions about his personal life.

In Sewa Ltd. Co. is sponsored by Thakral Group through authorized unit in Vietnam - Luu Hung Phat JSC.- has awarded scholarships to VNU-UEB students. School year 2012 - 2013, 9 students were honored to receive Thakral - In Sewa scholarships. In particular, there were three talent scholarships for excellent students of strategic mission program of Faculty of Business Administration with worth of 100 million/person. These scholarships were in framework of cooperation agreement between In Sewa Ltd. Co.and VNU-UEB signed on 29/3/2012.
