Prof. Yap Co introduced the contents of the negotiations, with special emphasis on participation as well as impact of TPP to Vietnam. TPP is regarded as a model of free trade agreements of the 21st century with wide range and deep level of commitment. Members of TPP hope to reach agreement and ending in 2015. Discussions in the seminar focused on issues and field greatly affected by the TPP. Statistics showed that TPP’s markets were of crucial importance to Vietnam. Therefore, partnership with TPP is expected to benefit Vietnam in many aspects such as increase in export, improve terms of trade and productivity etc. However, besides the opportunities, Vietnam will face some difficulties in market access relevant to TPP’s rule of origin. Joining TPP also requires Vietnam to make adjustments related to labor, environment, competition, intellectual property, state enterprises etc.
