GPAC was first held in 1991 thanks to the initiative of Professor Sang-Ki Min from Seoul National University (Korea) and Professor Haruo Shimada, who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tokyo Metropolitan University (Japan) seeking to provide a platform for outstanding students from different Asian countries to have academic exchange activities and discuss key economic issues of Asia Pacific.
Until 2002, the number of participating universities had increased with the participation of Meio University (Japan) and National Chengchi University (Taiwan). Over the years, the number of GPAC members is growing which allows conferences to be held in different countries every year.

GPAC 2018 was held in Japan
At present, GPAC has 10 official member universities in total. They are Seoul National University (South Korea), Chiba University of Commerce (Japan), Meio University (Japan), Keio University (Japan), Waseda University (Japan), National Chengchi University (Taiwan), Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (China), The College of Management Academic (Israel), Tokyo Metropolitan University (Japan) and University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University (Vietnam).
VNU University of Economics and Business has officially become a part of GPAC since 2008. As a result, the University honorably became the host of this event in 2010 and 2014.
On August 26, 2019, VNU University of Economics and Business will host GPAC for the third time. With the experiences of organizing successfully GPAC 2010 and GPAC 2014 as well as the devotion and the responsibility, VNU University of Economics and Business promises to bring the most wonderful things to GPAC 2019.
