The book focuses on recent technological developments in disaster investigation and research through advanced computational techniques combined with geo-informatics and Earth observation datasets to manage, adapt and natural and man-made disaster reduction. Associate Professor.Dr. Nguyen An Thinh is the author of the book chapter "Geography of adaptation solutions to climate change in the Northern mountainous region of Vietnam: Quantitative analysis of the intentions of indigenous ethnic minorities using the model." structural equation modeling (SEM) and protection dynamics theory (PMT).
The book chapter presents the results of applied research combining structural equation modeling (SEM) and protection dynamics theory (PMT) to study the community's intentions in climate change adaptation in Van district. Chan, Yen Bai province. The survey questionnaire was built with 243 local people surveyed according to thematic groups: risk perception, beliefs, subjective norms, adaptation assessment, production habits and adaptation intention. 500 bootstrap samples were randomly selected from the original sample to estimate the coefficients and standard errors. Structural models of climate change adaptation intentions for the district and 4 ethnic groups Kinh, Thai, Tay and Mong were built. The results of the study suggest that these communities are more concerned with the effectiveness of adaptation actions to improve resilience after disasters. The intention to implement climate change adaptation measures does not depend much on perceived risks of climate change impacts. The multi-group structural analysis showed that these results were different among ethnic groups.
