Conference on "Economic fluctuation in 2008 and forecast for 2009: Solution and vision for Vietnamese enterprises”

On 11th January 2009, the Conference was held in La Thanh hotel (Hanoi, Vietnam) to bring about a vision for leaders and managers of enterprises in Hanoi so that they will be able to run their businesses successfully.


The Conference was jointly held by Hanoi Supporting Development Joint Stock Company (Hanoi SDC) and Center of Economics and Policy Research, University of Economics and Business (UEB) - Vietnam National University (VNU) with the support of Multilateral Trade Assistance Project (MUTRAP 3) of the EU, and information was supported by INFOTV.

The Conference was attended by senior experts in the fields of economics and trade, namely Dr. Pham Chi Lan - senior economics expert, former member of Research Department of Prime Minister, former Deputy Chief of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI); Prof. Dr Claudio Dordi - Team leader of the consulting team of EU-Vietnam MUTRAP 3 project, consultant of MUTRAP in Vietnam; Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - Director of Center of Economics and Policy Research of UEB-VNU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Nghia - Expert in company administration and restructure, Faculty of Law - VNU.

Four presentations were delivered at the Conference: “Enhancing the ability in administration to increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the new economic context” by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Duy Nghia; “Two-year accession to the WTO and the development vision for Vietnamese enterprises in the integration environment.” by Prof.Dr. Claudio Dordi; “Vietnamese enterprises in the economic recession context and the influence of anti-recession policy of the Government” by Dr. Pham Chi Lan. “Macroeconomic fluctuation in 2008 and forecasts for 2009: Vision for Vietnamese enterprises” by Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh.

Two year after accessing to the WTO, Vietnam economy has integrated more deeply with the world. The year 2009 is an important year for implementing the commercial commitments that have significant and direct influence on medium and small enterprises, especially on enterprises involved in services, distribution and retail. Global recession and domestic difficulties require responsive policies of the Government. This would put many challenges for enterprises: How the global recession and domestic economic difficulties affect enterprises; how enterprises contribute to the policies to protect their rights…

The Conference focused on clarifying a number of major topics: The nature of economic progress of 2008 and a strategic vision for 2009 to deal better with business activities; the economic fluctuation and business environment changes under the pressure of international integration are creating unprecedented challenges for Vietnamese enterprises.... also providing macroeconomic orientations and solutions of the Government for managers and leaders to achieve a competitive advantage...

Participants, both as individuals and as representatives of enterprises, are presented with certificates of participation by the Center of Economics and Policy Research, University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, MUTRAP 3 Project and Hanoi Supporting Development Joint Stock Company.
