Joint BBA-MBA program with AIT: a right way to approach regional and international standards

From 9th to 12nd June 2010, a delegation of University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi led by Prof. Phung Xuan Nha came to visit and signed the Memorandum of Understanding with Asia Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand.


Accompanying with the UEB delegation were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Trade Counselor and Mr. Nguyen Quang Anh, Attaché of Trade Chamber of Vietnam Embassy in Thailand.
This visit is aimed to sign the MOU to develop the joint BBA-MBA program between UEB and AIT. This joint program is to enhance the faculties’ capacity in accordance with BBA International Standard Program (16+23 Program) of UEB.
Before the MOU signing ceremony, UEB and School of Management representatives - AIT had a meeting to discuss about details of the joint BBA-MBA program.
In this program, students will study the 4 years program at UEB and be awarded the BBA degree by UEB. In the final year, students are planned to learn some modules from the master program of AIT. Students who complete the BBA program at UEB will be transferred to study in Thailand in one year to finish the MBA program and will be awarded the MBA degree by AIT.
In comparison with the normal 2-year master programs at AIT, the BBA graduate students of UEB have an opportunity to reduce 1 year of studying MBA program. Currently, 7 subjects of the BBA program of UEB are transferred to be taught in this BBA-MBA program, namely: Human Resources Management, Managerial Accounting, Enterprise Finance, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Operation Management, and International Business. Obviously, the 16+23 Program of UEB is step by step being recognized in the region and approaching international standard.
The program is not only a good opportunity for students to finish an international MBA program from a prestigious university in the shortest time, but also help to improve the training capacity for UEB’s faculties participating in the program. These lecturers will be sent to AIT to study the experiences of AIT and co-teach some courses with the assistance of AIT’s  faculty. Dr. Barbara Igel - Dean of School of Management - AIT affirmed: “Many partners have come and suggested cooperation in the unified BBA- MBA degree program but we have not found suitable partners. UEB is our first partner that we would like to cooperate in this program”
After the meeting with School of Management, Prof. Phung Xuan Nha and Prof. Said Irandoust - President of AIT signed the Memorandum of Understanding. This signing ceremony marked a higher step in building the relationship between UEB and AIT. Prof. Said Irandoust expressed his happiness in the ceremony: “This is win-win cooperation. Our mutual goal is to give the best benefits for the student. We are very glad to find a suitable partner. I have a strong believe that this cooperation will be a greet success”.
Prof. Phung Xuan Nha, on behalf of UEB, expressed his gratitude to AIT for their warm welcome and hospitality. The UEB Rector said: “The collaboration with AIT will bring the 16+23 program of UEB to regional and international standards. We believe that our students, through this unified BBA- MAB degree program will become important human resources for the enterprises in ASEAN and Asia in the near future
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Trade Counselor, Trade Chamber of Vietnam Embassy in Thailand who has made a great contribution in the cooperation between UEB and AIT- congratulated UEB on this first success and affirmed: “UEB is going on the right way in the process of building and developing into an international standard university. Vietnam in particular and ASEAN in general are in greet need for these kinds of cooperation programs. Therefore, The Vietnam Embassy in Thailand will always support the best for this unified BBA- MBA degree program between UEB and AIT”.
