The conference has drawn 25 papers and over 100 delegates, including specialists in economics, finance and banking from Vietnam and overseas (UK, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand,…).
Under the Prof. Nguyen Hong Son’s chairmanship, the conference Sơn, the discussion opened with an overview on the impact of the global financial crisis on Asian countries’ economy. Prof. David Tripe, Prof. Tran Dinh Thien and Dr. Can Van Luc have had three speeches relating to such issue.

In the discussion, the participants focused on assessing policies to stimulate Vietnam’s economy (interest rate policy to support the short-term loans, the implementation of new credit guarantee program, implementation policies of exemption, reduction or extension of taxes…). In addition, lessons of other countries and recommendations of national fiscal policies were also ebulliently discussed among scientists.

The implementation of stimulus policies to minimize economic downturn and financial crisis of some countries in the world and Asia, including Vietnam, have ended with argumentative points of view from scholars and economic experts. So far, we have more time to further analyze the effect of “stimulus policies” - “economic stimulate policy package" in 2009.

The success of “economic stimulate policy package” has contributed to solving urgent problems to maintaining the growth and macro-economic stability in the context of the deep impact of global financial crisis. It also requires set out for us more difficult problems, especially the problem of macro-economic balance to ensure conditions for sustainable growth in the coming period.

In his conference closing remarks, Prof. Nguyen Hong Son, said "through the seminar, policy makers, leaders of theory and research agencies, enterprises and others interested in the socio-economic development may attain valuable lessons learned from the "economic stimulus policy package"; the interaction of these policies in Asian countries and in Vietnam, as well as policy advice for economic development in Vietnam and the region in the coming years ".
In addition to the scientific significance and practical value of macroeconomic management for Vietnam, the conference has been a scientific forum and contributed to the environment for academic exchange at University of Economics and Business - VNU. It is also a proof of the coherence between training and research, theory and practice, thereby enhancing the creativity and passion at UEB and strengthening international cooperation in scientific research.
