Working with Embassy of New Zealand

On 1st October 2015, within the framework of cooperation with the Embassy of New Zealand, the VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) had a meeting with representatives of the Embassy.


Attending the meeting, from the UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector, Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector, MA. Vu Thanh Huong - Faculty of International Business and Economics. From the Embassy of New Zealand, there were Mr. Robbie Taylor - Deputy Ambassador and Ms. Bui Thi Nga - Policy Advisor.

The UEB has been known for a number of key research projects related to ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). In the meeting, representatives of the Embassy of New Zealand expressed hope to exchange information and listen to the opinions shared by scholars/researchers in the fields of AEC, AEC’s impact on Vietnam economy as well as opportunities and challenges for Vietnam to join the AEC etc.

Talking with the Deputy Ambassador, representatives of the UEB shared some results of in-depth studies on the AEC, which has been published through a number of national and international conferences in the past 2 years. Leaders of the UEB also shared information about the opportunities and challenges of Vietnam when joining the AEC.

At the meeting, Mr. Robbie Taylor also shared information about the process of comprehensive economic reforms since the 1970s in New Zealand, including innovation process in state enterprises, banking system and especially agricultural sector. Through this, the strengths of New Zealand's agricultural sector were enhanced and developed strongly, especially the dairy industry and dairy products. Currently, New Zealand is a country of high-tech products. Mr. Robbie Taylor also said that AEC will bring a positive impact to the economy of New Zealand. The opportunities of AEC for New Zealand may include the harmonization of regulations, which would allow New Zealand companies to get involved in the value chain of ASEAN as well as enhance cooperation in trade and investment with ASEAN countries, including Vietnam.

The meeting took place in an atmosphere of openness and friendliness, the two sides also expressed desire to cooperate in the field of education and research activities.
