On 7th May, 2019, the delegation from Thriive US visited the UEB and worked with UEB’s leaders to discuss the undertaking of social responsibilities through Thriive project.
Attending the meeting, there were Ms. Linn Kincanon - Founder,
President of Thriive Foundation; Mr. Kellen Raegen Williams - counselor of Thriive
program. From the UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu – Vice Rector;
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Head of Research and Partnership Development;
Dr. Pham Vu Thang - Director of Center for Development Economics Studies- the
coordinator of Thriive in Hanoi.
Beginning the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu welcomed the
delegation from Thriive US. She said that, after 14 years of partnership, the
two universities have made breakthroughs in cooperation. Also,
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu summarized the main activities that are implemented
as well as and evaluating the impact of
Thriive project in Vietnam.
On hearing the great outcomes that have been made by Thriive project
in Hanoi, Ms. Linn Kincanon said, mission of Thriive is to eliminate poverty
around the world by supporting social businesses. In Vietnam, Thriive has
invested a huge resource and attain great impacts. The UEB has been accompanying
Thriive in undertaking the project.
Over 14 years of operation in Vietnam, Thriive USA realizes the great
economic and social impact that the project have made. Therefore, it’s
necessary to have a new form of investment being implemented.
“We chose the UEB - VNU as the first partner to implement the TiiF
- Thriive Impact Investment Fund. With this fund, businesses can access the capital
of USD 50,000 with preferential interest rates. The criteria will be developed
by the two sides.”
After welcoming the delegation from Thriive US, UEB’s leader signed
the MOU with 2 social enterprises, Ngan Ha Xanh JSC and Thuong Thuong handmade
company.
