Monday Finance and Banking Series - From Research to Policy

With the first seminar taking place on March 1, 2021, the Monday Finance and Banking Series was born and developed with the aim of providing a forum that provides opportunities for exchange and exchange between business owners, economists, lecturers, and experts in the field of Economics, Finance - Banking of universities and organizations at home and abroad.

The attraction of the seminar series lies not only in the famous guests, but also in the rich and in-depth content of each talk, spanning all prominent economic-financial-social issues at national and international levels.

For example, in 2021, especially the second half of the year, when Vietnam was heavily affected by the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the far-reaching effects of the pandemic were reflected in the series of seminars. These include live discussion sessions on the impact of COVID-19 and response policies of the government and businesses on the domestic labor market; how the government changes and is flexible in operating fiscal and monetary policy; as well as the impact of these policies on the stock market….

Many discussions in the framework of the Monday Finance and Banking Series discussion series also pointed out that although the COVID-19 pandemic has been negatively affecting all aspects of the country's economic, political and social life, but this is also an opportunity that requires Vietnam to accelerate the digital transformation process - the "backbone" of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. In this context, banking is considered as one of the pioneering industries in the digital transformation race. In this aspect, the guests in the series of seminars gave an in-depth look at eKYC technology, omnichannel customer experience, or requirements and solutions of product and service delivery in the race of “digital banking”.

After a year of operation and development, the Monday Finance and Banking Series discussion series has become a familiar place for academic exchange and sharing of practical experiences for many researchers, lecturers, experts, beyond from the Faculty of Finance - Banking, UEB. This is a forum for sharing knowledge, knowledge and ideas; connecting scientific researchers, lecturers, experts and policy makers at home and abroad through the presentation of research articles, and perspectives on emerging issues in economics, finance, banking and management.

In addition to discussing hot socio-economic issues, the series of seminars also brought about the research experiences of speakers with many years of experience in publishing international articles, including: like Dr. Dang Hoang Hai Anh (Senior Research Specialist, World Bank), Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Lan (VinUniversity), and Dr. Hoang Gia Thinh (RMIT University; Research leader on Sustainable Development - Institute of Economics and Strategic Management). In particular, the Monday Finance and Banking Series discussion series also attracted the participation of researchers and experts from many countries around the world , such as Professor Hongjoo Jung (Chairman of the University of Hong Kong). Institute of Insurance and Retirement, SKKU University, Korea), Professor Man Cho (Chairman of the International Financial Consumer Protection Forum, professor, Korea), Professor Serdar Ongan (St. Mary's College of Maryland, USA), Mr. Karasawa Masayuki (Chief Advisor of Vietnam - Japan Human Resource Development Project), Assoc.Prof.Dr. Quach Manh Hao (Lincoln University, UK ).

 

Receiving the support of the scientific research community and leading experts, the Monday Finance and Banking Series of seminars have been widely spread to universities, domestic and international research institutions. Continuously from March 2021 up to now, there have been nearly 50 seminars held. Each seminar attracts an average of 30-50 participants, with the highest number of sessions attracting more than 100 lecturers and experts to participate in the discussion.

It can be seen that the Monday Finance and Banking Series Seminar is expected to create a certain influence in the scientific research community, not only in Vietnam but also in international context. The series of seminars has contributed to improving the academic environment, serving as a launching pad for potential scientific ideas, contributing to improving the research ability of the Faculty of Finance and Banking in particular, and of the UEB in general.

The Monday Finance and Banking Series session with the topic " Applied value investment strategies in Vietnam's stock market " was held in a combination of face-to-face form at the Faculty of Finance - Banking Office and online on Zoom platform

 

Speaker Phan Linh, Founder and Product Specialist of Take Profit Vietnam Investment and Consulting Company participated in sharing on the topic "How to start investing and the potential from Vietnam's stock market ”

 

Dr. Do Minh Thuy, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Administration - Hai Phong University, shared on the topic "Meditation in business"

 

Mr. Karasawa Masayuki, Chief Advisor of the Vietnam - Japan Human Resource Development project, shared about the topic "Investment environment in Vietnam observed by Japanese companies & Contribution of Japan's ODA to the better investment environment"

 

Following the success of the seminar series in 2021, in 2022, the Monday Finance and Banking series will continue to bring more in-depth discussions with speakers who are leading domestic and foreign experts to exchange proposed issues, policies and ideas for post-pandemic economic recovery and development. Especially, within the framework of Monday Finance and Banking Series in July 2022, an extended talk will be held with the topic: "New frontiers in banking and finance - Roadmap to economic recovery and growth".

The seminar will announce the results of a series of applied researches on outstanding economic-financial issues in the process of economic recovery and development after the pandemic. This series of researches is carried out by core research groups of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences in conjunction with domestic and foreign experts. At this seminar, the post-Covid economic and financial policies of Vietnam and other countries around the world, as well as their impacts on socio-economic activities, will be presented and discussed. Proposals and initiatives for the government, businesses and people are also outlined accordingly./.
