On October 26, 2022, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the THE World University Rankings 2023 by subject. Accordingly, VNU was ranked in 6 out of the 11 subject areas with two subjects climb up.
In the THE WUR by Subject 2023, besides the 4 ranked subjects as in the previous ranking, VNU had 2 more subjects: Business and Economics, and Life Sciences, ranked. Specifically, the VNU’s six subjects were ranked as follows:
- Business and Economics was placed in Group 501 - 600 globally;
- Life Sciences was placed in Group 501 - 600 globally;
- Computer Sciences was placed in Group 601-800 globally;
- Social Sciences was placed in Group 601-800 globally;
- Engineering was placed in Group 801-1000 globally; and
- Physical Sciences was placed in Group 801-1000 globally.
The THE World University Rankings by Subject ranks universities across 11 subject areas based on 3 data sources: survey (done by THE), Scopus database (by Elsevier Publishing House), and data provided by higher education institutions themselves. The scoring weights are standardized by THE for each specific subject. The results of this ranking are based on five groups of indicators including Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry income, and International outlook. Through the ranking periods, VNU has increasingly demonstrated its position as a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary training centre with a steady increase in the number of its ranked subjects year by year:
- 2 subjects in THE WUR by subject 2020;
- 3 subjects in THE WUR by subject 2021;
- 4 subjects in THE WUR by subject 2022;
- 6 subjects in THE WUR by subject 2023.
