Governor of South Australia shared with VNU students

On 31st May 2016, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) hosted the talk between the Governor of South Australia with students of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).


Attending the meeting were Mr. Hugh Borrowman - Australian Ambassador to Vietnam; Ms. Kim Cleary - Counselor for Science and Education; the delegations of South Australia were Mr. Le Van Hieu - Governor of South Australia, Mr. Jay Weatherill - Premier of the State, Ms. Karyn Kent - Chief Executive - Study Adelaide; staff of Office of the Governor and representatives of some universities in South Australia.

 

Meeting with the delegation; from VNU were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quan - Vice President; representatives of VNU’s departments such as Cooperation & Development Department, Academic Affairs Department, Political- Student Affairs Department; from VNU University of Economics and Business were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector and leaders of faculties and offices of the university. Besides, more than 300 students from UEB and from other universities of VNU attended the meeting.

 

At the meeting, despite being requested by the Organizing Committee to present in English, Mr. Governor opened his speech in Vietnamese and expressed his deep feelings for the motherland, which received great respect and praise from participating students, lecturers and staff.

 

Mr. Le Van Hieu has become South Australian Governor since September 2014. He has so far been the appointed with the highest political position in foreign government, and also the first Asian person to be appointed to this position in Australia

 

Next, the Governor of South Australia Le Van Hieu introduced an overview of South Australia state, as well as experience in improving entrepreneurship skills and the role of education in the development of entrepreneurship.

 

He said that he himself had proposed and supported many programs and activities to encourage young people to participate in professional training programs and general education so that they would have the chance to enhance their skills and expertise and easier access to employment opportunities. One of the main factors contributing to the success of higher education in South Australia is the tight connection between universities and enterprises, helping students develop both specialized knowledge and practical skills.

 

The speech of the Governor inspired and raised the passion, motivation for students as well as drew up a fascinating picture of Adelaide - the beautiful land in South Australia. Up to now, more than 32,000 international students are studying and living in Adelaide, including a significant number of students from Vietnam

 

Following the speech of the Governor of South Australia, Ms Karyn Kent - Chief Executive - Study Adelaide made an interesting presentation on developing entrepreneurship skills. Ms. Karyn Kent brought fascinating information on the education system in Adelaide as well as the support and establishing the start-up model at educational institutions.

 

In addition, during the meeting, experts from several universities in South Australia also shared the studying and entrepreneurship experience in Adelaide with students of VNU. This useful information helped Vietnamese students learn more about the advanced education which support most for the passion and creativity of students, lifting up their startup dreams

The visit of the Governor of South Australia has strengthened the educational relationship between VNU and universities in South Australia - this is also one of the state's priorities as investment in education is invest for the future and for the good of society.
