On 11th November 2016, representatives of Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan had a visit and exchange with VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) discussing the issue of Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP).
Attending the meeting, there were Mr. Hidehiro Konno - member of Board of Directors, Mr. Hideto Uramoto - Department of General Administration, Mr. Tetsu Funayama - General Director of Mitsubishi Vietnam, Mr. Shuhei Ando - Head of Department of Administration and Planning and Ms. Lam Thanh Huyen - Department of Administration and Planning.
Before the meeting, Mr. Hidehiro Konno and Mitsubishi delegation met and discussed with Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector of the UEB
From the UEB, there were Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector, Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Head of Office of Research and Partnership Development, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Viet Khoi - Faculty of International Business and Economics and MA. Nguyen Thi Minh Phuong - Faculty of International Business and Economics.
At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu welcomed the delegation of Mitsubishi Corporation, especially Mr. Hidehiro Konno - former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry of Japan, expert on international trade for Japanese Government for more than 40 years. Dr. Thu also presented several key findings about the TPP and Vietnam, highlighting three main ideas: Introduction to the TPP, assessment of TPP's impact for Vietnam and analysis of several emerging issues related to TPP. In addition, the vice rector also discussed the latest developments affecting the TPP, especially the newly elected president of the United States - Donald Trump did not support the TPP.
Representatives of the UEB and Mitsubishi Corporation at the meeting Following discussion of the Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Mr. Konno updated the situation of Japan in the approval process of TPP as well as the need to promote cooperation between Japan and Vietnam in the realization of the TPP. At the meeting, the issues of the future of TPP in the new context, the impact of the TPP for the agricultural sector, responses of corporate sector to TPP were also discussed.
Ending the meeting, representatives of the UEB and Mitsubishi jointly expressed the desire to develop the cooperation, specifically in the areas of research; network expanding; organizing seminars/exchanges and internships for students of the UEB at Mitsubishi Vietnam in the near future.
