On June 23, the Times Higher Education (THE) released the ranking of the world’s best young universities in 2021. Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM) feature in this prestigious table, in Group 251–300 and Group 401+, respectively.
The THE Young University Rankings 2021 is a ranking specially for the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. This ranking uses the same methodology as the THE World University Rankings, but the weights of the performance indicators are adjusted to reflect the mission and role of young universities under education globalization with an expanding scale and a focus on research.
The THE Young University Rankings 2021 is based on 13 performance indicators grouped into 5 areas: Teaching (30%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), International outlook (7.5%), and Industry income (2.5%).
The THE Young University Rankings 2021 lists 475 universities from 68 countries and territories (up from 414 in 2020).
Ranked for the first time by the THE Young University Rankings, VNU gained the highest score for Teaching (Learning environment), which is 2.3% higher than the average score of the 50 universities featured in Group 251–300; and even 6.3% higher than the average score of the universities listed in Group 201–250.
In addition, VNU’s International outlook and Citations attained the scores with 12.9% and 11.3%, respectively, higher than the corresponding average scores of the universities listed in Group 201–300. Furthermore, the ranking score of VNU’s Industry income is just by 0.5% and 1% lower than the average scores of Group 201-250 and Group 251-300, respectively.
