Expanding cooperation opportunities with Ireland higher education

Mr. Ciaran Cannon, Irish Minister of Education and Skills, was speaking at conference
At Vietnam-Ireland Education Conference held by VNU and the Embassy of Ireland on 12 October 2012 Dr. Vu Anh Dzung, Vice Rector of VNU University of Economics and Business has emphasized that it was the opportunity for Vietnam and Ireland education institutions to find chances for new cooperative activities.


Present at the conference are Mr Ciaran Cannon, Ireland Minister of Education and Skills; Mr. Damien Cole - Irish Ambassador to Vietnam; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha - Permanent Vice President of VNU; Prof. Nguyen Xuan Vang, Head of Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Education and Training; and representatives of a number of universities and a leading Institute of Technology in Ireland and Vietnam.
At the conference, Mr. Ciaran Cannon said that it was the first time he has visited Vietnam and he did hope to create a lasting relationship between two countries’ education as the internationalization and collaboration in education was very important. Currently, about 11% of the students who are studying in Ireland come from Asian countries. He hoped that from now till 2015 this number would be doubled, especially, it is necessary to find out the potentially cooperative directions for increasing the number of Vietnamese students to study in Ireland in the upcoming years.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha, Permanent Vice President of VNU said that VNU considered the strengthening of international cooperation one of the most important tasks to promote the development and to achieve the goal of becoming Vietnamese leading research and training institution of the international standard.

Dr. Vu Anh Dzung, Vice Rector of VNU University of Economics and Business agreed that cooperative education played a very important role with VNU-UEB in building brand as well as training high-quality human resources. Also, VNU-UEB always focused on International joint training activities with implementing bachelors and masters training programs which was associated with international partners of top ranking such as : Troy University (United States), Massey University (New Zealand), University of Uppsala (Sweden) ... VNU-UEB always desired to expand good cooperative relationships with more international partners to increasingly improve the university quality.
Dr. Vu Anh Dzung hoped that in the near future, Vietnam -  Ireland in general, VNU-UEB and Irish universities in particular will be able to promote suitable cooperation programs. Moreover, Dr Vu Anh Dzung also proposed some of cooperative directions with the representatives of Ireland.
At the conference, the educational institutions of the two countries had some information exchanges, questioned and answered the issues related to education, training, research activities and discussed together the possibility of cooperation.
