UEB Rector visited UK universities and research institutes

Within the work visit to the Oxford University by the Vietnam National University, Hanoi from 18th to 28th February, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son, Rector of the University of Economics and Business visited the Middlesex University, Oxford Brookes University, Overseas Development Institute and the University of East Anglia, UK.

Welcoming and attending the delegation of the University of Economics and Business – Vietnam National University, Hanoi were Dr. Terry Butland - Deputy Director, Anna Kyprianou, Deputy Director and Dean School of Business, and Dr. Maggie Butt – Deputy Department of Art and Education. During the visit, the leaders agreed to sign a mutual recognition agreement on academic programs and discussed possibilities to collaborate within the International Standard Business Administration program (16+23 program) that is currently conducted by the University of Economics and Business in various forms such as 3+1 joining program (3 years training in Vietnam and 1 year in UK or any campus run by the Middlesex University in the world or even online program); and 3+1+1 joining program (3 years in Vietnam, 1 year at a undergraduate program and 1 year at graduate program in Middlesex University).

During the reception hosted at the Oxford Brookes University, the delegation met Prof. Chris Cooper - Vice Rector and Dean School of Business and Dr. G.Gibbs, Head of International Development Commission and other staff. The two sides discussed training and research cooperation activities like some international cooperation models currently run by the Oxford Brookes University. The Oxford Brookes University’s leaders committed to introduce professors co-tutoring Vietnamese graduate students in development economics field and considered joint training possibilities through the link of the U.K Association of Chartered Certified Accountant in Vietnam.

During those days, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son set up relationships with the Overseas Development Insitute in London, a leading U.K research and policy consultancy institution. Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son and Dr. John Young, Vice Director saw many opportunities that the two school may collaborate with each other such as in terms of research, bidding international projects, sending lecturers and staffs as speakers to scientific workshops on public policy hold by one of the two sides. Additionally, the Institute was willing to cooperate with the University of Economics and Business in improving research capacity for the University’s lecturers and staff in similar programs that the Institute has successfully conducted in Cambodia. 

A part from the above mentioned visits, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son met Prof. Rhys Jenkins, East Anglia University and discussed possibilities to collaborate in scientific research and doctoral level academic programs. Prof. Rhys Jenkins himself is a senior expert in international development, foreign investment and industrialization with over thirty year experience studying of developing countries. Currently, he is a leader of many research projects on globalization, environment and poverty reduction. Prof. Rhys Jenkins agreed to consult of and introduce experts from the East Anglia University who are interested in Vietnam to co-tutor Vietnamese graduate students and/or write articles published in international journals of science.

The visit led by the Rector of the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi to the UK universities and research institutes ended successfully with collaboration possibilities that open for the School but also require the School to make efforts in better using advantages of collaboration with foreign partners.
